Fillings in Bromley

Prices read 28 August 2026 · How we verify prices

34 dental practices in Bromley publish what they charge for fillings. Half of them ask between £121 and £199 for a tooth, and the middle price is £165 — about the same as the London index figure of £165 for fillings (the median of the 9 borough medians we publish). The figures below are those practices' own published fees, read in August 2026, each one linked to the practice and its CQC registration. They are not quotes: what you pay depends on what the examination finds. On the NHS a filling is a Band 2 charge of £76.60, however many teeth are treated in the course.

How this is worked out. Every figure comes from a price list the practice publishes itself. We drop “from” prices, which describe the cheapest possible case rather than a price, and variants narrower than the treatment named. 34 Bromley practices remain. The middle price across all 9 boroughs we cover is £165. How we read a fee guide.

What the numbers say · Bromley

Why do some Bromley practices list under half the median?

2 of 34 published prices are below £82: Shortlands Dental Practice Limited (£65), Confidental Care (£75). A figure this far below the borough median is often a narrower product than the rest of the table (a single session, a top-up, or an introductory offer) — check what the practice's fee guide includes before comparing.

Why are some Bromley prices more than double the median?

1 of 34 listed prices exceed £330: Caring Dental (£340). These are typically premium packages or specialist-led treatment; the median is a better guide to what a typical Bromley practice charges.

Why does the same practice name appear twice?

1 name recurs (Highfield Dental / Highfield Dental Practice). The CQC registers each location separately, and some practices hold two registrations at one address. Each row links to its own CQC registration and each row is counted in the figures above; if the pair is one practice, read it as a single price point.

Every statement above is computed from the 34 published prices in the table below; it changes when the data changes.

A low figure is a real published fee, not a quote — complexity can change the price. Always confirm. How we verify

Composite versus amalgam

Most private fillings are tooth-coloured composite, bonded in layers and cured with a light. Silver amalgam is cheaper and still used on the NHS for back teeth, though its use is being phased down across the UK. Composite takes longer to place, which is most of the price difference.

Why quotes vary so much for the same tooth

Practices price by surfaces — how many faces of the tooth the filling covers. A one-surface filling and a three-surface filling are often quoted as one number on a website, so ask which case the published price refers to before comparing two practices.

The NHS alternative

Fillings sit in NHS Band 2, £76.60, which covers everything in Band 1 plus any number of fillings needed in that course of treatment. If you need three fillings, the NHS charge is still £76.60 — which is where the NHS is at its most competitive.

What the evidence says

The faster “bulk-fill” technique lasts as well as the slower layered one, so a practice charging a premium for either should be able to say why.

Pooling nine randomised trials covering 632 restorations found no statistically significant difference in failure rates between bulk-fill and incrementally layered composites, over both short and longer follow-up. Marginal adaptation, discolouration and post-operative sensitivity were comparable too. The practical difference is chair time, not durability.
